Eastleigh's winless run in the National League was extended to three matches after a 2-0 defeat away to Forest Green on Wednesday. The Spitfires struggled to impose themselves at The New Lawn and were undone by goals either side of half-time.
Grigg opened the scoring for the hosts in the 28th minute, finishing from a cross by Abrefa. Forest Green doubled their advantage in the 76th minute when Mabete found the net, securing the three points.
Key moments
Eastleigh made a triple change at half-time, introducing Rankine, Johnson and Williams. The visitors' discipline was an issue, with Sidwell and Eweka both receiving yellow cards. Forest Green's Mabete and Etaluku were also booked.
Their recent form of two wins and three losses from the last five has stalled their progress, leaving them 23 points adrift of leaders Boreham Wood. The team has scored 18 goals this season but conceded 22, giving them a negative four goal difference. This defeat was part of a sequence that also included a 3-2 win over Brentwood Town on Saturday 17 October and losses to AFC Hornchurch and Woking earlier in the month.
Eastleigh will aim to bounce back quickly with a trip to face Barrow on Saturday 31 October. Barrow currently sit 8th in the table, making it a tough test for the Spitfires as they look to end their poor run of results on the road.
